According to English designer Karen Ryan, her current exhibition AWKWARD: Whittle & Black Ink at the Marsden Woo Gallery "is a portrait of social unease, constrained and vulnerable... a life study in altering the anatomy of discarded chairs, drawing references to my own personal awkwardness." In this new body of work I find the starkness of the natural colored whittled furniture, in contrast to the ink stained pieces, creates a cleaner more contemporary modern aesthetic that becomes "louder" than the "reclaimed furniture" reference .... creating a more sculptural sensibility.
This work is a must see for all "accessorators" in London .......
and I look forward to seeing Karen's work in NYC in the not too distant future!!!
