Sapore del Mobili (furniture tasting)
is the result of a chance meeting in Milan of two young designers,
Ryosuke Fukusada (Japan) & Rui Pereira (Portugal).

The project is a statement about the size of the contemporary
furniture industry & the "consumer's inability to digest"
the amount of product that is launched every year
at Milan's Salone del Mobile.

The designers created these "furniture pans" to bake
small Japanese cakes "baby castella" with
Portugese egg based pastry "ovos moles."

Creating your own "edible furniture" ...
chairs, tables, lamps, cabinets, vases, etc ...
& decorating the pieces with a choice of toppings ...
makes "digestion" of new furniture easier!!!

And when you get tired of these pieces ...
you can "eat'em up" and start again!!!

This blend of my two favorite "accessorations" is sublime ...
& a very, very thought provoking idea!!!

Yummie too!!!

CHIMERE work in progress, 2012 Mario Bellini

I love the vibrancy & grace of blown glass
and was once again enchanted by
exhibition during Milan Design Week.
(see blog 4/21/11)

It was held at the divine Museo Bagatti Valsecchi,
a stunning "house museum" on Via Gesu,
in the middle of Milan's shopping mecca,
between Via Monte Napoleone & Via Spiga!!!

Titled "The White Collection,"
this extraordinary selection of "glass art" includes
renown international designers,
including Japanese architect Tadao Ando
Italian designer Alessandro Mendini,
and English designers Barber & Osgerby,
who most recently designed the 2012 Olympic Torch.

I was most captivated by the two collections,
created 10 years apart, by Italian designer & architect

All six pieces are sublime ....
the over-the-top whimsey & color in the earlier series
is a revered "accessoration supreme,"
while  the more minimal, sculptural shapes & colors of 2012
 have a more contemporary feeling.

I can't make a "must-have" decision ....
& would be equally thrilled
by anyone of these pieces
"accessorating" my living room!!!

Everyone needs a "time-out" ....
even visitors to Milan's

What could be better than this whimsical, colorful, squishy,
"cocoonish" sofa!!!

Great for napping, texting, phoning or just thinking!!!
Italian design at it's best!!!

Bet these divine creatures won't be at next month's ICFF ....
too bad!!!!!

The accessorator's pick for "trend du jour" at
Milan's Salone Del Mobile were .....

Perching, Sitting, Stacking, or Setting!!!

These "accessorations" were everywhere,
some were serious, some whimsical, some recycled,
some shiny & new ......
but always accessible & flexible!!!

There were sooooo many divine choices that
I think maybe I ordered them "all" ....
for my house in the country!!!

Danish textile company Kvadrat
celebrated it first & most iconic textile
at the Jil Sander showroom
during Milan's 2012 Salone del Mobile.

A durable and flexible blend of wool & viscose,
the fabric, designed by Nanna Ditzel in 1965,
is archetype of woolen textiles.

It has been used in everything from hospitals to hotels,
and is currently available in 58 color combinations ...
a divine "accessoration palette" for this color junkie!!!

Seven international curators,
were asked to select young, contemporary designers to
"reinterpret the classic textile,
developed more than 45 years ago,
in a modern context."

From furniture to .....
"paintings," light fixtures, shoes, & a car,
this eclectic installation of 32 beautiful "objects"
is staggering!!!!

It was truly a Milan must-see!!!

are the sponsor's of
a design project presenting original "slow seating" designs,
from contemporary Chinese designers,

The project, paying tribute to Chinese design & creativity,
was curated by renowned Chinese designer

"Mr. Zhu has selected over 60 Chinese designers
to reflect upon the significance of the chair,
theme of the exhibition,
as an object apt for meditation & rest."

Chairs are symbols of "home",
a place to slow down ..... think about our purpose,
our families, & our lives.

I love the simplicity & grace of these chairs ....
the quality of design, workmanship
and materials is brilliant.

Any one of these wonderful "objects" would be
a welcomed "accessoration" in my home!!!

Milan's ultimate shopping mecca,
featured these divine magnifying glasses from
one for your right hand and/or one for your left!!!
And each has it's own bag!!!!

This is really the "accessoration of accessorations,"
or "the gift of gifts"!!!

Especially fantastic for someone who has absolutely,
without  doubt ..... everything!!!!

But, which one do you get???

Milan's "retail accessorator supreme"
presented a divine collection of
100 chairs!!!!

Made by ex-prisioners in Columbia,
the projects goal is to
"reinforce the prisoners resettlement
into social & working life."

These brightly colored traditional Columbian chairs
have been updated in "fashion" patterns
& color combinations created by
Marni owner & designer

They are super-stunning ....
& would look especially divine in my garden!!!

And guess what ......
 this morning,
my favorite Marni saleslady
checked the cost of shipping six to NYC ....
& they're on their way!!!!

One of my favorite designers
has become the "accesoartor" supreme
for the Merci pop-up store
that arrived in Milan yesterday ....
to be part of

I adore Navone's bold combinations of
black & white graphic designs!!!

They are a wonderful compliment
to the merchandise selection
that the concept store Merci is know for!!!!

In Antwerp, the primary mode of transportation is bicycles!!!!

And "Antwerpian's"definitely follow the accessorator's
"rules for good accessorations"!!!!

Sometimes simple, often colorful, pleasantly patterned,
and always personal ....
these bicycles were divinely accessorized!!!

Even I considered taking one home!!!!
Only for a minute,
but it did cross my mind!!!

I'm about to get on another plane!!!

So, get ready .....

Yarn ....
whether its knitted, crocheted, or wrapped .....
continues being the trendy "accessoration du jour"!!!
(blog 4/25/11, 10/25/11/, 4/4/12)

I'm loving this stool I found in Florida last week!!!!

And I wonder what's going to be in Milan next week!!!!

Glasgow-based artist
has created the newest High Line Billboard .....
"How Do You Feel?"

This latest Friends of the High Line commission
asks the ultimate question!!!

And Shrigley's messy, scrawling answer is
brutally honest & accurate ....
"standing as a reminder of our fears, insecurities, & paranoia,
which are so familiar to our contemporary culture."

This really fabulous"street accessoration" ...
is getting loads of attention,
and resonates with every New Yorker I know!!!

While walking in my 'hood yesterday,
I saw these delightful limited edition pieces of furniture
created by Italian sculptor

the chicest Italian kitchen manufacturer,
has it's first USA showroom on 17th Street in Chelsea ....
with designs that are sleek, modern, über stylish!!!

But I, of course, fell "head over heels" for
innovative & eccentric furniture!!!!

An ode to all of my favorite things .....
sculpture, black & white graphics, & color, color, color ...
each piece is an "accessoration sublime" !!!

These pieces would be spectacular in any room ...
not just the kitchen!!!

I have finally found the oddest "accessoration" yet ...
A giant cupcake on a bicycle!!!

And I followed it up Madison Avenue
at 9 PM
on Sunday night ...
Just to take it's picture!!!

Divine & Delightful,
this fabulous "fantasy accessoration"
was "designed & driven" by
an artist & maker of models & diorama's at
NYC's Museum of Natural History!!!
